The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 150th Anniversary is the last model to feature the Calibre 5135, a movement based on a historical movement from 1978 that has been used in Audemars Piguet’s 41mm Perpetual Calendar skeleton for nearly a decade. Now, this legendary work from 1978 has come to a successful conclusion. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak replica watches at captainthewatch.is.
The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 150th Anniversary features a sapphire dial that offers a panoramic view of the inner workings of the skeleton movement. The inner bezel and the edges of the sub-dials are presented in a rich blue hue that contrasts with the color of the case, cleverly reinterpreting the contrasting aesthetic design of the original pocket watch. The slightly darker blue tone harmonizes with the deep color of the 18K white gold “bathtub-shaped” hands of the same color, which are coated with a luminescent coating to ensure clear reading. Continuing the overall contrasting effect, the hour markers are silver-grey and have a delicate round shape, reminiscent of the brilliant-cut diamond hour markers of the original pocket watch. The functions of the perpetual calendar are displayed in white numbers and letters, and the font has also been redesigned, giving the dial an elegant and retro aesthetic.
This new limited edition watch with a diameter of 41 mm cleverly combines the light texture of titanium with the solid characteristics of bulk metallic glass, marking a further step in Audemars Piguet's exploration of materials and creative ideas. Bulk metallic glass was introduced in the 1960s and now has hundreds of types. It is now widely used in microelectronics and golf. This alloy material exhibits some of the characteristics of glass after rapid cooling. This key step prevents crystal formation and achieves glass freezing, giving the material high strength and amorphous properties. After unremitting exploration of craftsmanship, shape and materials, Audemars Piguet jointly developed its own palladium-based bulk metallic glass with a palladium content of more than 50%, which has excellent scratch and corrosion resistance and a glossy surface. In 2021, Audemars Piguet combined titanium with bulk metallic glass for the first time in the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Only Watch (Ref.15202XT), creating a precedent for the application of palladium-based metallic glass in watchmaking. Two years later, Audemars Piguet introduced bulk metallic glass into the Royal Oak “Jumbo” watch (Ref.16202XT), and further applied it to the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch (Ref.26585XT) in 2024.
